By now we all know the importance of sleep especially how important it is to both our mental and physical health, but despite us knowing that fact we still find ourselves regularly being deprived of a good night sleep.
Irregular and sleepless nights can take a serious toll on your daytime energy and productivity. Moreover, unhealthy daytime habits and lifestyle choices can leave us tossing and turning all night long and negatively affect our mood.

- Create a Sleep Schedule:
The recommended amount of sleep on a healthy adult is at least 7-8 hours, set a schedule to go to bed and to get up at the same time everyday, being consistent is key over here.
- Create a Relaxing Environment:
Create an environment that’s ideal for sleeping which means cool, dark and quiet. Being exposed to light makes it more difficult to fall asleep. Plus avoid screen time 30 mins before your bedtime. You can also do some calming activities before going to bed, such as taking a relaxing bath, meditating or yoga.
- Minimize Daytime Naps:
Long daytime naps are beneficial however it can in fact affect your nighttime sleep, if you choose to nap, just limit yourself to 30 minutes and never nap late in the day.
- Pay Attention to What you Eat and Drink During the Day:
Avoid heavy or large meals before bedtime, also stay away from Nicotine, alcohol and caffeine; they can disrupt your sleep.
- Manage Worry:
Never ever go to bed with stress or worries, try to resolve them before hand, the best way to do that is to write what’s on your mind on a piece of paper. Meditation also can ease stress.
- Make Sure to Exercise During the Day:
Regular physical activity can promote better sleep; however, avoid exercising too close to bedtime.
