How To Stop Your Makeup Running This Summer
Hello Beautiful People
Picture this: you have just put on a full face of makeup, only to realize 30 minutes later that your winged liner (that you spent hours to perfect) and mascara has smudged and creased all over your under eye; giving you that raccoon look (yikes!), not to mention cakey foundation and sweaty hairline… This is my life every time I try to wear makeup to work during the summer. As soon as I hit the door, the beads of sweat begin to form on my forehead, upper lips and nose.
Summer is actually one of my favorite seasons and its full of wonderful things (from beaches, to pool parties and bbq parties) but summer where I live is not just hot outside… its scorching! With temperatures hitting the high 40s, no one is taking the heat harder than the make up on our faces; from melting foundation, to smeared eyeliner and super-sticky lipstick.
Thankfully, there are a few things you can do to help your makeup stay on your face during the hot summer days. Scroll down to read some of summer’s makeup survival hacks.
Tip 1: Start with the right moisturizer
Taking care of your skin during hot summer days is as important as the makeup you apply, use an oil-free moisturizer in the morning and likewise opt for an oil-free foundation formula to match. This will less likely leave your face greasy throughout the day, especially in the heat.
Tip 2: Don’t forget to layer on sun protection
Besides hydrating your skin, you also need to make sure its properly protected from the sun. Make sure you wear SPF 30 or higher every single day under your makeup.
Tip 3: Give yourself a nice lip scrub
People usually tend to skip this part and find it not so important, however, it is so important and vital especially during summer. It helps your lips stay soft, helps remove any fallen foundation or powder and starting with a clean surface helps your lip color last longer.
Tip 4: Swap lipstick with lip stain
It’s better to opt for a product that’s going to stain the lips rather than something super creamy that will slide off. Lip stains long-lasting formulas offer sheer coverage that can be built up, making them super versatile.
Tip 5: Apply translucent powder before and after foundation
While we are used to using translucent setting powder after we have finished putting on a full face, doing this step before and after can be a real game-changer. Simply apply a layer of translucent powder on your face before your foundation, then set your t-zone with more translucent powder, then once again after applying your foundation, followed by a setting spray, it will leave you looking so smooth and your face will stay matte longer.
Tip 6: Primer can help your makeup from sliding off your face
Most importantly prime your eyes and t-zone to prevent your eyeliner from sliding around and giving you raccoon eyes. Primers help create a “grippy” base that locks onto anything you put onto your eyelid, whether it be an eye shadow or eyeliner.
Tip 7: Wear less makeup
Less is more during the summer time. Its best to swap your heavy foundations with just a tinted moisturizer or a concealer instead.
Tip 8: Skip the shimmer
I know everyone loves a nice dewy-glow look for the summer, but there is a huge difference between a healthy radiant look and looking oily; its best to avoid cream foundations or anything too luminous, as the humidity will make you extra shiny and sweaty-looking.
Tip 9: Ditch the powder blush
Just like lip stains, cream blush or stains are great for longevity in hot weather. You can also lightly dust a light setting powder on top to lock in the product.
Tip 10: Opt for waterproof versions of your favorite product
There are lots of amazing long-wear makeup products out there these days. Just invest in a good waterproof mascara and you won’t regret it.
