How To Add Color To Your Wardrobe

Hello Fashion Lover,

If you’re a neutral lover, the thought of adding color can be scary. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll always end up naturally gravitating towards neutrals… in fact, the bulk of my wardrobe consists of neutrals! However, adding a little pop of color here and there is usually the perfect finishing touch.

There are lots of simple ways to add more color to your wardrobe. Start small and dial down the intensity. If your wardrobe is predominantly black; add navy or charcoal for a low-contrast addition. Wear mostly beige? Add brown, taupe, peach, or other delicate shades. It’s easier to introduce colors with similar intensity if you’re not used to wearing them.

Start Small

The easiest, least expensive and least daunting way to inject some color into your wardrobe is by beauty! A gorgeous red lipstick is just what you need to brighten up your look. Or maybe even with a bright gorgeous nail polish. And if you’re feeling a little adventurous, then try wearing a colored eyeliner or mascara. It’s a great way to add a fun and subtle hint of color to an otherwise everyday look.

Keep It Classic

Keep your outfit feeling “you” by opting for a classic cut in a statement hue. Picture your usual neutral color palette in your head. Everyone has their own neutrals and my advice would be to try and redefine your neutrals and maybe add in some new ones! Try adding in warm colors to different hues. Adding color doesn’t HAVE to mean a bright purple or yellow.

Inject Color Into Your Accessories

Afraid to go all-in? Consider adding some color into your accessories. Think: shoes, bags, scarfs, belts and etc. Especially if you’re wanting to add color in baby steps. Shoes are a fabulous way of brightening up your wardrobe. They’re perhaps the best way of adding color to a neutral outfit if you’re nervous about wearing bright shades.

Layer Up With A Color-Pop Knit

A pair of tailored trousers and an oversized trench is a classic minimalist pairing. Add a blue jumper over the top, and suddenly, the whole thing feels 10 times chicer.

Wear A Colourful Base Layer

The beauty of the colourful base layer is that it can be surreptitiously slipped under anything—from white shirts to boiler suits. It’ll just peep out from under pieces, offering any outfit a little bit of personality.
