Fashion Rules to Live by
When it comes to fashion and style, it is sometimes difficult to find our way around. It is hard at times to keep up with all the trends and styles. It is easy to get caught up in a fashion trend and end up purchasing of-the-moment pieces that you will likely get sick off within a few months. I am not against trends and its okay to incorporate those on-trend items into your closet, but the core of your wardrobe should deeply rely on essentials that you can wear all the time and all year long!
We all struggle with buying too much and end up throwing them away, but it doesn’t have to be this way. With years of experience, I have built up a set of implicit rules that I live by. Of course, I don’t go shopping carrying a note pad or a check list (wish I did though); those principles/rules have become a natural filter; my choices always instinctively just flow in.
Everyone has their own set of rules, as everyone has their own taste after all. However, I am pretty sure that we have at least a couple in common. I have rounded up 8 rules of fashion that I live by, and I am sure whether your style is classic, quirky, tomboy or cool; you will find these somewhat helpful.
- Look for items that go with multiple pieces in your current closet.
Avoid buying a piece that doesn’t work with anything else. Plan ahead and go about it intentionally so you know ahead of time what you’re looking for.
- Rules are made to be broken
If you don’t feel confident in what you wear, then this will reflect on your overall look. Never follow a trend that makes you feel less you and not comfortable, just be you and always add your own touches.
- Don’t pay attention to what others think
Don’t listen to what others around you are saying, because trust me you will end up buying and wearing something you hate (been there done that), always listen to your self and see what works for you and stick to what makes you comfortable.
- Don’t overdo it
Sometimes the simplest things are the best way to go. Well-fitted pants with a shirt, or a little white shirt with skinny jeans, are the best options.
- Don’t follow trends
Just keep it simple, don’t follow every trend out there, wear things that attract you and you feel comfortable in.
- Class is forever
Class is everything and it would not mean anything if you don’t wear it with confidence. If you don’t feel too comfortable wearing something, then leave it to those who do. Remember, it’s not what you wear; it’s how you wear it.
- If it works for you, don’t try to change it
I know what I love and what works for me and I have had the same style for years. Just learn and try out things until you find your style and what works for you and that’s all that matters.
- Basics never go out of style:
It’s easy to get caught up in trends, purchasing of-the-moment pieces that you’ll likely get sick of within a few months and never ever wear it again. Wear something that suits you and something that would last for years on end; a great pair of white tee that you will end up reaching for three or four times a week or that little black dress that will never go out of style.
